KS3 Science

KS3 students will study Biology, Chemistry and Physics. They will follow a Scheme of Work that is closely linked with the KS4 Scheme, giving the students a firm base on which to learn the content of their GCSEs having been taught the key concepts in earlier years.

The Scheme includes practical work that students carry out, before analysing the results, as this is a skill that is required for GCSE exams.

Each half term they will study one Science, there will be a mid topic assessment and an end of term assessment.

All KS3 students are set homework on a weekly basis, using booklets that have 6 weekly activities to complete.

KS4 Science

Year9

Students in Year 9 will start studying towards their GCSEs with AQA.

All students MUST study all Sciences to gain a Science GCSE.

Some students will be selected to study towards Triple Award based on ability and aptitude shown in KS3 and assessment grades. This will mean that they would gain a GCSE in each Single Science.

All other students will study towards Double Award. Study will include Biology, Chemistry and Physics and students will be awarded 2 GCSEs in Double award science. These students will follow the AQA Trilogy route.

There is now no controlled assessment in Science, the grade will be based on terminal exams taken at the end of Year 11.

If students wish to continue studying Science at A level, they can still do this with Double Award Science, each educational facility will have a criteria that will need to be met, however previously, the student would need a B grade at Double award Science.

More information about how the course will be assessed etc. will follow when it becomes available.

Homework is set on a weekly basis using homework booklets that are handed out at the start of each new topic. These are also placed on Show My Homework, should any student lose them. This homework includes students completing keywords and key facts from each lesson and an exam question relating to content taught that week. This has been designed so students build up a revision resource for assessments at the end of each topic and to become familiar with exam style questions.
